CHAPTER 3 : THE DIRTY SECRET
5 years ago, Ethan had a fiance,Daphne. She
was his wife-to-be. They were friends for 4 years and decided to get engaged
for a year while waiting for Daphne to graduate from the university. In a year,
Ethan’s mother, Madam Ellena made a preparation for his wedding ceremony. She
was delighted because her one and only son will be maried soon. So, she offered
herself to do the preparation, helped by her daughters and her sister. Once,
Ethan’s sister, Savannah called him and told him that their mom’s face was
glowing everyday. Also, he still remember what his mother told him when they
were on the phone. Madam Ellena said “Oh Ethan! I never felt so energetic in my
older age. Even your sisters were suprised to see me able to walk faster than
them in the shopping mall this afternoon.” Then,both of them laughed loudly.
Ethan said “Mom,please don’t make yourself tired just for my day. Take a rest
if you’re tired. You need to take care of your health,mom. My wedding, it’s
still a very long period of time.”
However, his mother insisted to help for the
preparation. He cannot say a thing anymore as his mother insisted to help.
After Daphne was graduated, there were 2 weeks to go before their wedding.
Greg, Daphne and Ethan went to Kuching by flight and David,Savannah’s husband
picked up them at the airport. David and Savannah was married before Ethan
moved to Selangor. The next day, they went to a wedding boutique to try on
their wedding costumes. While Ethan was trying his wedding suit, Daphne
fainted. They were panicked and rushed to the clinic nearby.
After the doctor did a check up, Daphne was
found pregnant 3 weeks already. She fainted because she did not rest well and her diet was not balanced. Also, the doctor said Daphne took Amytal and Cocaine. When he heard the news, he sat down on the
couch and his tears flowed out of disappointment. Savannah was shocked and
asked Ethan in anger “Eth, be honest to me now and I’ll not tell mom about
this. Did you guys stepped over the line?” Ethan sharply looked at his sister
and answered “No! You know how much I respect women. I’ll not touch them
without marriage including Daphne.” Savannah looked at Greg like she wanted to
hear Greg’s explanation. Greg said “That’s true. I know my man,Sav. He’ll not
do that such thing. In addition, Daphne and Eth didn’t met before and during
her final week. We only met her before we came here which was after her final
week.” Savannah shook her head and said “we must asked Daphne,herself about her
pregnancy.”
As soon as Daphne was conscious of fainting,
they drove to Matang where Ethan’s youngest sister,Sheryl lives. They did not
want to let their mother knew about Daphne’s pregnancy so soon because Madam
Ellena suffering from high blood. In the car, Daphne was crying because her
secret already leaked. She does not know what to do. As they reached Sheryl’s
house, Savannah asked Sheryl’s permission to use a room in her house. And she
sent them to a room next to the kitchen. In that room, there was a couch and 2 chairs. Ethan and Greg sat on the couch while Savannah and Daphne sat on the chair, facing each other. Then, Savannah start asking Daphne about her pregnancy.
Finally, Daphne opened all her dirty secrets.
“It was started in my final year” she started her dirty story. In silence,
Daphne was cheating with her friend,Troy. Whenever Ethan did not met her on the
weekend, she will go out with Troy. They went to the nightclub, drinking beer
and got drunk. At first, it was just for fun but soon, it was turn to scandal.
“That’s why I don’t want to meet you,Eth” said Daphne. Ethan grasped his
fist,ready to get it to Daphne’s face but still he held it. “We were drunk or
not we had sex for few times. He used condom, I took the contraceptive pill. The dirty thing went well all
this time but during our first final week, we were stressed. We went to the
club and got drunk. At his place, we had sex without condoms and contraceptive
pill.” she explained. Ethan asked Daphne about the Amytal and Cocaine that she took. Once again, she told them her dirty secrets. She took the Amytal and Cocaine. She got her supply from her friends who were working at the club.
The next
morning, she thought everything was okay until one day, she was nauseous and
nausea. She also threw up and had no appetite. She went to the pharmacy and
bought pregnancy test. To make
things worst, the result was positive,she was pregnant. She refused to meet
Ethan and rejected his calls by saying she was busy studying for her final but
she was worried Ethan’s reactions if he knew her conditions.
“Why you didn’t told me earlier,Daph?!” said
Ethan loudly. Greg and Savannah was suprised to see how mad Ethan at that time.
He even almost slapped Daphne but Greg stopped him. Ethan left the house and
drove to Savannah’s house. He banged the door and did not opened it when his mother knocked the door. Madam Ellena shocked to see her son being so angry
and called Savannah what had happened. “I’ll tell you later,mom. David will
come to pick up Greg and I at Sheryl’s place. He is on the way now.” After Savannah told everything to Madam
Ellena, she almost fainted after hear the news. Her blood pressure increase immediately.
Ethan had a deep depression, he refused to
eat and drink. He stayed at his sister’s house for a long time and he locked
himself in the room. David did talked to him and try to convince him. But, it did not work to make him feels better. Daphne
did visited him too but he refused to see her. He even insulted her as
prostitute. Greg went back to Selangor to inform their bos about Ethan’s
condition and asked medical leave for Ethan. Luckily, their bos is kind hearted
and understanding. He let Ethan fully recover before he back in the office
again. He gave 2weeks medical leave for Greg too so that he can help Ethan to
recover faster. He also visited Ethan when he had a meeting in Kuching. Madam
Ellena looked after Ethan and she was helped by Greg.
